Das dürfte auf alle Fälle sehr interessant werden,
sobald es die verfügbaren Beiträge gibt meine ich, ist Übersetzungsarbeit zu leisten.

Intelligent Thought: Science versus the Intelligent Design Movement
Panel discussion
Tuesday, October 17, 6:30 pm
The Great Hall
7 East 7th Street at Third Avenue

Intelligent design, the concept that certain features of the universe and of living things are best explained by an intelligent cause, not an undirected process such as natural selection, is a controversial topic sparking disparate views across the nation. An overwhelming majority of the scientific community views intelligent design as pseudoscience. The U.S. National Academy of Sciences has stated that intelligent design "and other claims of supernatural intervention in the origin of life" are not science because they cannot be tested by experiment, do not generate any predictions and propose no new hypotheses of their own.

Marking the 9th annual Rudin Schaffner Lecture at Cooper Union, the intelligent design discussion will feature thought leaders in the field such as:

* Jerry Coyne (Moderator)
Evolutionary Biologist; Professor, Department of Ecology and Evolution, University of Chicago; Coauthor (with H. Allen Orr), Speciation
http://www.edge.org/3rd_culture/bios/coyne.html
* Neil H. Shubin
Evolutionary Biologist, University of Chicago; Specialist in the evolutionary synthesis of expeditionary paleontology, developmental genetics, and genomics

* Lee Smolin
Physicist and Founding Researcher, Perimeter Institute; Author, "Three Roads to Quantum Gravity", "The Trouble with Physics"
http://www.edge.org/3rd_culture/bios/smolin.html
* Seth Lloyd
Quantum Mechanical Engineer, MIT; Pioneer in quantum computation; author "The Programmable Universe"

The Jack & Lewis Rudin Charles E. Schaffner distinguished lecture series was established by Jack and Lewis Rudin, two of New York's illustrious business and civic leaders, in honor of Cooper Union alumnus Charles E. Schaffner, a civil engineering graduate of 1941. Topics address the larger interdisciplinary impact of technology and science both nationally and internationally.
